A new, free parent and toddler club designed to cultivate gardening skills for parents alongside their little ones in a playful community setting. We will use stories, messy play, gardening, craft and cooking to help nurture a love of nature and help us to understand the gardening year. The Moss Side Community Allotment has a space designed for creative, explorational play with a mud kitchen and a willow den, where children and adults can grow a healthy, organic vegetable garden and learn about nature at their own pace.
We will be covering many elements of the early years curriculum including physical development, communication, maths, understanding the world in a playful and engaging way and we encourage children to explore at their own pace, either gardening with the adults or having fun in the mud kitchen. We hope this will be a community space for parents and children to share ideas and learn together.
How the sessions will work: Each session will begin with an opening circle at around 10:45 to give people time to arrive (please try to be on time for this to get the most out of the session) where we will sing songs and have stories. Then there will be space for either free play or the opportunity to join in with a gardening/nature craft activity. At the end of the session we will have our final circle where we have a quick snack and say goodbye to each other.
Snacks: There will be drinks and small snacks available for adults and children as gardening makes for thirsty work! You may want to bring a few extra bits if you have a child with a big appetite!
Age Range: We will have a range of activities on offer to suit children from aged 0-5 – even the really little ones benefit from the sensory experience of being outdoors around other children.
What to Wear: Be sure to bring clothes you do not mind getting muddy in as we don’t want this to be a limiting factor to children’s play! Bring sun protection and waterproof/water resistant clothing as a bit of rain doesn’t put us off and we do have a shelter.
Places: Places are limited so please let us know if your plans change and you cannot attend as we can offer the place to another family. The club has been funded so we are not charging for spaces in our club.
Ratios: We ask that you bring a maximum of three children per adult to ensure the appropriate safety and supervision of the children (and so that you can enjoy it too!)
